A pressure washer is a great tool to have, especially if you love having a sparkly clean home. Having one just within arm’s reach is convenient and it also saves you a lot of money since you can do most cleaning jobs yourself.

From your walls to the garden tiles, and even to the car, a pressure washer will always clean things efficiently. Unfortunately, vigorous and/or long-term use can cause minor problems with your beloved pressure washer unit.

Problems With Your Washer

If you hear a creaking noise or your washer won’t start at all, it may be due to various issues. Luckily, most of these issues are minor. Therefore, there’s a way for you to do the repairs yourself! There is no need to call up a pro because you can do the job on your own.

So, here are three of the most common washer problems that you can fix in the comfort of your home.

Water Does Not Come Out

If there is no water coming out of the nozzle of your pressure washer, the first step is to check the nozzle properly. There may be a physical clog on the exit point due to undissolved chemicals or particles in the water. Sometimes, even stones or pebbles can cause a blockage. If this is the case, remove the attachment and rinse it out. Water should spray out after.

If this step does not work, the inlet water screen may be the part that is clogged up. The solution is the same: Just take the screen out and rinse it gently. Even the smallest particle can clog up the whole screen, so make sure it is completely clean before placing it back.

If both scenarios are not the case, it is time to abandon the use of your eyes and start listening. If you hear a sucking sound, this may be a side-effect of the problem. That sucking sound happens when the detergent container is empty or the fittings are loose. Simply fill the detergent container and/or tighten necessary clamps while watching out for leaks.

Water Pressure Is Not Enough

If you have maxed out the power but the water is not coming out strongly, this is because of the low pressure from the nozzle. The first step to solving this problem is to scan the inlet water-screen. Even the smallest cloud of dust can actually disturb the flow of water so make sure it’s very clear and clean.

If this does not solve the problem, the next step is to take a look at the pressure nozzle itself. Low pressure is the result of two scenarios; either the nozzle is too worn out or the size of the nozzle is incorrect. To solve this, swap out the incorrect size to the right one. If this does not work, it is time to purchase a new one.

The issue may also be caused by a broken plunger causing it to slip. To fix this, just replace old parts with the spares available in the original packaging. If the spares are unavailable to you, re-order from the company.

Still not working? Next, try checking the water supply. The lower the water supply, the lower the water pressure. So, if there is not enough water to supply the unit, there will not be any water coming out as well. Simply increase the water supply until the desired pressure is achieved.

If all these do not work, the answer may lie in having too little detergent in the unit or the fittings are loose. This is the case when a sucking noise is heard. To solve this, just refill the detergent container and re-tighten all the fittings until you find the loose one.

Lacking in Detergent

The first thing to check if little or no detergent emerges from the units is whether the detergent has simply run out. The fix for this is very simple: Refill the detergent container.

Another common issue is when the detergent screen is clogged up. This is caused by gunk and small particles. But once the screen is cleaned up, the detergent should be able to flow out nicely.

Moving on to more complicated reasons as to why the detergent is scarce, it could be due to an injector that refuses to open. This occurrence is caused when the handle and/or knob is not tight and it slips on the shaft. To solve this, simply tighten anything loose and you’ll be good to go.

Another complicated reason is when the inlet valve pressure is too high. Most units run on less than 80 PSI, so if your unit exceeds this measure, it is considered to be excessive and can damage the way detergent comes out. The solution is quite simple for a complex problem: Just adjust the pressure until it hits the correct measure.

Other Issues

If after all these steps, your pressure washing unit is still not functioning properly, a more complex issue must be responsible for it.
